NEW Wheelchair-Accessible Bus

We recently added a new wheelchair-accessible school bus to our fleet to safely transport our students who require a wheelchair. Last week, the board of education at Perry Public Schools voted to approve the purchase of it’s first wheelchair-accessible school bus to add to their fleet. The board plans to apply ESSER III Funds (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief) to cover the expense.

The new bus ran its first route on the morning of Thursday, September 9. It is equipped with a wheelchair lift to safely load and unload students who require a wheelchair. It’s current route transports 3-5 students with disabilities and their siblings to and from the elementary school.

Jordan Bolay, the Director of Special Education for Perry Public Schools, got the wheels in motion to bring this request to the school board and acted as the primary advocate and voice for the students in need of this school bus.

“We are excited to bring this new opportunity to our students. It’s our desire to ensure all students are included, supported and look forward to school everyday. This new bus is one more way we are investing our resources to achieve that,” says Bolay.
