National School Board Recognition Month is celebrated in January each year by school districts across the United States. It’s an opportunity for local schools and communities to honor and recognize the elected school board members for their dedication and service.
School board members voluntarily work as a team to lead our school district. They help develop important school policies, manage the budget, listen to concerns, campaign and advocate for school bond initiatives that provide vital funding, plan for the future, and make tough decisions on complex educational and social issues. They bear responsibility for Perry’s 1,000+ students, 140 employees, and four buildings.
Our school board works to ensure our students and staff have every opportunity possible to make them successful.
A school board member’s work is not done when they leave the board room. They take time to attend seminars and training sessions to keep up with the latest trends in educational leadership. They’re also involved in community activities, school extracurricular events, and supporting students on the field, court, or stage.
Even though there’s a special effort during January to show appreciation for our school board members, their contributions reflect a year-round effort. “Looking back at the past few years, our board members have faced a lot of adversity and handled it all smoothly,” commented Dr. Terry McCarty, Superintendent of Perry Public Schools. “They are dedicated individuals who work really well together. I’m privileged to work alongside them and proud of the progress and accomplishments we’ve made.”
This month we recognize the dedicated service of the men and women serving Perry Public Schools, including Jason Proctor, president, Aaron Frable, vice president, Marsha Hartwig, clerk, Marvin Dement, member, and Amy Chenowith, member.
