BASKETBALL ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM

The 89er Conference recently released All-Conference basketball accolades for the 2022-2023 season.

PHS senior, Maebry Shields was announced the Conference MVP. Shields has been averaging 21.1 points per game, 5.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. She’s been a standout for the Lady Maroons the past four years. This is not her first conference recognition; she made the 89er All-Conference team last year, and honorable mention the year before as a sophomore. Shields was also named to the Wheat Capital All-Tournament team earlier this year.

First year head coach for the Lady Maroons, Carson Mathews commented, “Conference MVP is a huge accomplishment. I am so proud of Maebry. The numbers she's putting up are incredible, but the type of teammate and leader she is, is what makes her special. I'm glad to see other coaches in our conference recognize that about her.”

Athletes from Perry making the All-Conference team included Bryson Cash, senior, and Makenna Justus, sophomore.

Justus is averaging 9.4 points per game and 4.5 rebounds per game.

“Makenna has grown tremendously this year,” said Coach Mathews. “She has developed into a consistent shooter for us. I am excited to continue to watch her grow her game the next couple of years!”

Bryson Cash is a powerhouse on the court for the Maroons. This season, he has averaged 17.9 points per game and 7.1 rebounds per game. In January, he was named to the Wheat Capital All-Tournament team and he also made the 89er All-Conference team last year.

The 89er Conference All Star game is scheduled for March 6 at Cleveland High School.

Schools included in the 89er Conference are Alva, Blackwell, Chisholm, Frontier, Newkirk, Perry, and Tonkawa.
