CHILD NUTRITION RECEIVES DONATION

Earlier this school year, the Child Nutrition department at Perry Public Schools announced the opportunity for community members and organizations to donate toward outstanding school lunch balances.

While many families qualify for free or reduced school meals, there are still several families who don’t meet the eligibility and struggle to pay student meal balances. School meals are a great deal, but the cost can really add up.

Last week, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church of Perry presented a $500 donation to the Child Nutrition department. This donation will help cover unpaid student lunchroom balances.

This is part of the church’s outreach program and growing relationship with Perry Public Schools. Back in December they donated supplies for each school site office, which consisted of a variety of items for student needs, such as clothing, shoes, toiletries, ice packs, lice treatment spray, and more. Again in March they made another generous donation of similar student supplies and miscellaneous items.

“We are so grateful for the support of our community and the care they show our students and families,” says Dr. Andrea Rains, Executive Director of Federal Programs for Perry Public Schools. “This donation from St. Mark’s will be a huge help as we approach the end of the school year.”

Church members pictured with Dr. Rains include Audrey Cross, Sharon Mitchell, Carolyn Walter, John Irons and Shawn Irons. St. Mark’s is located at 701 7th Street in Perry.
