During the Perry Board of Education meeting on July 10, the board approved the hire of Tommy Milligan as the new agricultural education instructor and FFA Advisor. He fills the position previously held by Keeland Nix.
Milligan has 12 years of experience teaching agricultural education. He served as the Perry FFA Chapter Advisor and Ag instructor from 1999-2010. Since then, he took a break from teaching to raise a family and manage a successful business in the livestock industry.
He is eager for the opportunity to return to the classroom and be a leading force in the recently launched two-teacher Ag program at Perry Schools. Mrs. Amber Coon, who was hired as an Ag instructor in June of 2022, has been managing the program this summer and taking students to camps and clinics. Milligan will join the two-teacher team to start the new school year.
Upon accepting the position, Milligan commented, “I’m pretty stoked about getting back in the classroom and challenging myself and our young people to become better versions of ourselves every day!”
Milligan has an associate’s degree from Connors State College and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Education from Oklahoma State University in 1995.
He is originally from Cashion, Oklahoma and his wife of 16 years, Julie, is from Colorado, but they call Perry home. They are active in the community, enjoy traveling, raising goats, and spending time with their three sons; Elliott (14), Grayson (11), and Lawton (8).
