SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarship Deadlines Approaching for PHS Seniors

Seniors graduating Perry High School this spring are fortunate to have a multitude of local scholarship opportunities available to continue their post-secondary education. The Perry community has many generous donors and clubs who invest their funds and time in helping students succeed.

Perry High School counselor, Tiffany Nelson, coordinates the organization of all scholarship opportunities and ensures they get in the students’ hands. She distributed scholarship packets seniors on Friday, February 2. The packet includes hard-copy scholarship applications, deadlines, and instructions on completing each application. Mrs. Nelson would like to encourage students to fill out applications thoroughly. Incomplete applications will not be considered for the scholarship.

There are approximately 25 local scholarships included in this year’s packet. Each scholarship application is unique and deadlines are quickly approaching, as early as February 15.  Deadlines vary for each and will be outlined in the student’s packet.

“I encourage all seniors and parents to take the time to submit each application they’re eligible for. Last spring, more than $100,000 in scholarships were awarded to our senior class. It’s definitely worth the time and effort to apply,” says Mrs. Nelson.

In several cases, there are donors who grant scholarships to multiple students who apply. For instance, the Perry High School Alumni Association offers several different scholarship awards, including the Dr. Linda Powers memorial scholarship for students interested in going into the education field, as well as a scholarship specifically to students interested in engineering.

Scholarship awards range from $500 to $20,000 each. It’s worth applying for every scholarship, even if the student thinks they aren’t eligible.

Seniors can pick up scholarship packets in Mrs. Nelson’s office at the high school.
