BAND STATE BOUND

Outstanding performance by Perry Bands at District Contest

Both the Perry Junior High School band and the Perry High School band competed at the OSSAA District contest in Cushing this week.

Junior high band members took the stage on Tuesday, March 5 to perform “March from the First Suite for Military Band” and “Tanchozuru" by Randall Standridge. They received a 1 rating in sight reading and a 2 rating in stage performance.

Perry High School band members competed on Wednesday, March 6. The two pieces they performed were titled, “On a Hymnsong of Philip Bliss” and “Steel” by Randall Standridge. They earned 1’s in both the on stage and sight reading categories, which qualifies them for the state contest.

They will now begin preparing for the state contest, which will take place March 26 or 27, but a definite date will be announced by OSSAA at a later time.

The Perry Maroon Bands are directed by Andrew Houghton and Olivia Benton.
