PHS Baseball to host Hector Tovar Classic this Saturday, March 23
The Maroons baseball program will host the Hector Tovar Classic high school baseball festival this Saturday, March 23. This is an annual tradition that is held every spring break in Perry at Ripley Field.
In 1996 this spring break tournament was officially renamed in memory of a beloved community sports enthusiast, Hector Tovar. Hector had a passion for baseball and loved being out at the “yard.” He spent over 30 years coaching youth sports in Perry, Oklahoma, dating from the 1960’s to the early 1990’s.
The Tovar family will throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the 6:45 p.m. Perry game.
Scheduled games for the day are as follows:
9:45am Newkirk vs. Bixby
12pm Bixby JV vs. Stillwater JV 1
2:15pm Blackwell vs. Stillwater JV 2
4:30pm Stillwater JV 2 vs. Tonkawa
Tovar Family First Pitch Ceremony
6:45pm Perry vs. Tonkawa
In addition, the Tovar family plans to give away three baseball gloves and two bat bags throughout the day. Any little league youth baseball player, from T-ball to 12U, can enter to win. A winner will be announced during each game.
Come out and enjoy a day of baseball, grab a burger from the concession stand, and enter your child in the baseball giveaway.
