Racing through Track Season

Perry High School track and field athletes have been working hard as they enter the final stretch of their season.

They competed exceptionally well at the Cashion track meet last Friday, April 5.

The girls relay team won the 4x100m and 4x200m relays. Running for the Lady Maroons relay team is Emery Halford, Alliyah Shrum, Sarah Davison, and Kennedy Hight.

On the boys side, Colten Pearson finished 6th in the 110m hurdles and 300m hurdles.

For the girls individual highlights from Cashion: Emery Halford finished 6th in 100m. Essie Boschee finished 2nd in the pole vault event. Alliyah Shrum finished 2nd in the 100m and 200m races. Kennedy Hight placed 1st in the 200m and 400m races.

The 200m dash at Cashion was Hight’s personal best time ever with a time of 25.6, which beats her state race time from freshman and sophomore years. Senior Kennedy Hight is a 2x state champion in the 400m and also placed 3rd twice at state in the 200m.

Shrum is also speedy one and hungry for another opportunity at the state contest, as she finished 4th in the 200m dash at state last year as a freshman.

Coach Travis Cole commented, "Overall everyone improved on their times and competed well at Cashion. They are training hard and are determined to finish strong."

Currently in OSSAA class 3A track and field rankings, our girls 4x100 relay is ranked 2nd in the state, while our 4x200m relay is ranked 3rd. Hight is ranked 1st in the 200m and 400m, Shrum is ranked 2nd in 200m and 100m, and Boschee is tied for 4th in the class 3A pole vault rankings.

PHS has two more track meets before Regionals on April 27 (location TBA).
