Welcome Back, Maroons!
I hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable summer break. The faculty and staff at Perry Public Schools are back to work and have been busy gearing up for the first day of school.
Over the summer, we have worked on several different projects to maintain and improve our facilities, including deep cleaning, painting, repairs, and a huge technology upgrade.
New technology was installed at the lower and upper elementary schools, which was made possible by a grant received from the Malzahn Family Affiliated Fund (MFAF). Each elementary classroom received a new interactive white board, student chromebooks, iPads, and teachers received a new laptop computer with docking station. We are also in the process of installing a fiber optic network for all school sites.
A full district technology plan was developed with a timeline of future technology needs, budgeting, and implementation at the junior high and high school levels next.
We also hired 15 new staff members to fill vacancies over the summer and are happy to have them on our team. A couple of them are familiar faces who we were able to get back to PPS.
Speaking of staff, I am very excited to announce that Perry Public Schools will now begin paying into teacher retirement for all certified and support staff. Employees will receive 7% of their paycheck each month toward retirement. This is an employee benefit we have been looking forward to for a long time and can finally fulfill, with the help of the MFAF. I am grateful for the MFAF partnership, investment, and shared vision for the future of Perry Schools.
We are eager to welcome students back for the first day of school tomorrow, Thursday, August 15. Doors open at 7:45 a.m. and the first bell rings at 8:10 a.m. View the school website or mobile app to find lunch menus, car line drop-off/pickup maps, bus rider rules, and more information as your family prepares for the first day of school.
Lastly, I encourage all families to submit a Free & Reduced application for your child’s school meals. Your participation in this benefits our school and community.
If you are new to Perry Schools, I’d like to extend a special welcome! Know that our teachers, administrators and staff are here to support you and your child, so please reach out with any questions or concerns.
Here’s to wishing everyone a happy and successful 2024-2025 school year!
Sincerely,
Chad Wilson
Superintendent
