ATTENDANCE
IMPORTANCE OF REGULAR SCHOOL ATTENDANCE
Perry Public Schools strives to provide the best education and equip students for success, but we need students in school every day to make that possible. Regular attendance directly impacts student academics, social development, and future success. Below, we highlight the significant ways that consistent school attendance benefits students.
Academic Success:
Students who are present in the classroom are more likely to engage in the curriculum, participate in class discussions, and complete assignments on time. Regular attendance provides students with the continuity needed to understand new concepts and build on previously learned material, making them better equipped to score well on exams and assessments.
Consistency:
Consistency is key to learning and mastering new skills. Just like practicing a musical instrument or a sport, attending school every day ensures a steady and progressive acquisition of knowledge. Absenteeism disrupts this continuity, making it difficult for students to keep up with their peers and understand the logical progression of subjects. Consistent attendance is key to creating a structured learning environment, allowing students to establish a solid foundation for their future academic endeavors.
Social Development:
While school is a thriving environment for academic growth, it's also a hub for social development. Attending school regularly allows students to form friendships, collaborate on projects, participate in extracurricular activities, and share school spirit. These social interactions contribute significantly to the development of essential life skills, such as teamwork and communication. This assists students in developing a sense of belonging and connectedness within their school community.
Accountability & Responsibility:
A steady school routine helps students learn to manage their time effectively, prioritize their responsibilities, and develop a strong work ethic. Developing their accountability and responsibility are not only beneficial during their academic years, but also serve as valuable characteristics in their future careers and personal lives.
Preparation for the Future:
We are building young people’s groundwork and foundational principles now. The habits formed during school years often carry over into adulthood. Regular attendance teaches students the importance of commitment and punctuality - qualities that are highly valued in the professional world.
*Thank you to all the parents/guardians who are helping get students to and from school every day, instilling these important foundational values and contributing to their overall success! We want to see them in class! Together we are building future leaders!
